Apple a day
I have a new computer. I have been faithful to my sony Vaio for four years but my birthday present this year is an Apple Macbook Pro. It is really the best birthday present and I am in love with the large screen. My Sony screen seems so small in comparison and I hate having to switch back to work on Photoshop.
Since living in Europe, my work has been almost exclusively on laptops. My work and living spaces have never been overly generous and I just hate giving up space for a computer system that is not contained in a small box. So now i have a rectangle instead of a square and I am thrilled.
I have been busy the last two weeks trying to organize myself and transfer my business to the new system. I also have been working to finalize a few agreements from the book Messe and scheduling appointments with other publishers.
This week, I had a telephone conference with the owner of Blue Giraffe. She is starting a new publishing house in partnership with another publisher of art books. They will be focusing on fictional books and art books. She wants to be the next Bertelsmann I like people who set their goals high. My goal is not to be Bertelsmann. I want to be Navarre It is good to know that I can depend on these publishers to bring products I want to distribute to the market. Creating the distribution channel is enough work, maybe in the future we will be able to merge our companies.. I think right now, it is best that we keep focusing on what we want.. she wants to make books and I want to make a channel.
I met someone who knows a lot about software sales. Lets say his name is Charlie (he doesn't want to be named) Charlie lives in Munich and chatted with me about development of my channel. He didn't tell me not to do it, or comment about how much work it is, he just basically started thinking about what I am doing and throwing out things I should be working on... I liked that. He certainly knows what it takes to be in business development and would certainly make a good addition to someone's company.. I am always amazed when I meet people like Charlie, I wish I had a budget to afford his expertise. His focus is to stay in Munich to be close to family so he would be affordable... oh well, there will be other people out there, I just have to patient.
