Day 18 Zen Vision:M Test I know the French word do you?
There is a book fair coming up in England and in bologna. I keep getting announcements from different publishers that they want to meet up at the fair (take your pick). I have only scheduled one fair this year because I just don't have the time to be running around Europe going to fairs and that is not part of my business strategy. If I wanted to use traditional methods of distribution, I would be creating a traditional publishing company. (Did I just say I have a strategy?)
Today's email is from a French company making children's books. If you want to take a look, check it out. I hate the music on the site... If I wanted to listen to music, I would have on my music. It also is very distracting. I feel like I am in some kind of film noire. Where is the women with the cigarette? I don't get the feeling that they are trying to sell children's products... or is this just the French way of selling products for children?
Zen Vision:M made it through another day. Today I talked with a financial person interested in setting up a blog and/or podcasting. We chatted about the Zen and she thought it was ugly and too big. She said that it should be flatter so that people would think it was more expensive. She also thought my pretty blue radio looked like something from Tschibo. Oh well. She said she is more interested in how the product looks than all of the functions. This is a disappointment to her husband who likes all kinds of gadgets. Women like pretty things, I don't care how many buttons you put on it or features... If it is ugly we don't want it (except if it is homely like my radio). You can even charge more if you make it pretty. Look at our clothes.. we pay lots of money for a pair of pretty shoes.
Yesterday, I polled three tax consultants about what kind of player they owned.. Three Germans. Two women and one man in their twenties. The man owned an iPod. The two women did not own iPods. One used her phone and the other did not own an mp3 player or use her phone to listen to music. OK, so women like pretty things and are not focused on iPods.. that leaves a big open gap in fifty percent of the market doesn't it. When I talked to iPods PR firm, they said they focus on a young demographic.. they are not interested in spending money advertising to people over 25... Therefore I am really too old to own an iPod. Drat. When I asked the man if his mother liked Apple iPods, he said that she had been asking him lots of questions so the answer is yes. His mother, if he suggested it, would buy an iPod... pay attention to us, we may be older but we do have money to spend... just tell us what to buy and show us how to use it OR let me tell women what to buy and show them how to use it. I like that idea.
