Is Entrepreneur another word for Unemployed?

Yesterday I met with someone who has a start up business and just took a job with a large international company. It was nice to talk with him for a few hours but I noticed several things. First, since he started working for this large company, he has very little time to devote to his business and, second, he is having more fun and is spending more time socializing.

During our conversation, he said he no longer worries about making money because it is no longer a concern. His company has now turned into a hobby and there is no pressure to make the company profitable.

During our conversation, this man admitted that he does not consider himself an entrepreneur. He started a company because he was in between jobs, not because he was passionate about the business. Although he owned several companies in the past, he really doesn't care if he ever owns his own company.

I was a little disappointed that he does not consider himself an entrepreneur. You don't have to own your own company to be an entrepreneur...one definition is Someone who seeks to capitalize on new and profitable endeavors.

I am not unemployed but underemployed and by choice. My freelance work supports my start up habit. I now have to decide whether I should start looking for investors/advertisers/products to sell. Since December, I have been writing/podcasting to work on developing a brand... When should I go to the next phase and how do I do that? Sometimes I wish that there was an exact formula like McDonalds where I could just open up the manual and read chapter three to figure out what to do next. The problem is that I am pushing into unknown waters and there is really nothing that will tell me what works except actually trying it to see if it works.

So, yesterday I was talking with this "Entrepreneur" and asking him if he thinks my changed business model will work. I originally wanted my company to start with the Tupperware model... and I still believe this will work when I have capital to implement it... but until that time, I have to figure out a way to get my organic company moving forward... I have an idea.. and I am getting ready to try it out. It is not a new idea... but what ideas are new? They are just being used in new ways.
