Article on creativity
Being an Entrepreneur means that I wear several hats. As Andrew said to me in our meeting, hiring an entrepreneur for your company means getting someone who is used to doing more than one job.. they are used to doing four or more jobs. Not only are they able to do several jobs but they do them well. That might be one reason entrepreneurs suffer when they enter the regular corporate environment. They are given a job description which is all they are allowed to do... not only does this not utilize the full resources available (those other three employees stuck inside your entrepreneur) but it make your entrepreneur unhappy and her eye will start wandering to see what else is out there.
I did meet this week an employee who is working for a company. He was hired without a job description and told to do what he does best and just to keep everyone informed. so this lucky individual gets to pursue whatever whim he likes and he gives presentations and send emails to keep the management informed of what he is pursuing.
If more companies used versions of this method, they might find their companies booming with new ideas and products. It isn't that they do not have the resources to be successful... it is that they are not using them effectively. Your entrepreneur is a creative and you need to pay attention to their working style or you will lose them to someone who will.
A few months ago, I was interviewed about Creativity. It thought it would be good for people to read some of my thoughts about creativity... It really is a key to real growth in a company.
