Know your Consumer Market - Asia- Singapore Specifically
I am currently reading a book written by Chua Beng Huat. The book is bright pink with a bar code on the side and is entitled "Life is not Complete without Shopping - Consumption Culture in Singapore."
I doubt this book will be on the best seller list but it does give some interesting information about Singapore and Asia. The author is a professor at the National University of Singapore and I find it interesting to read his viewpoint.
I have quite a few quotes that I want to share and today's quote is the following:
"Twenty-something Singaporeans are on the make, impatient for success. Deprivation from car-ownership, contextually the ultimate success symbol, has made their bodies the locus of consumption. clothes and other body accessories have elevated status as expressions of "success".
This piece of information is good to know if you are trying to market high end products in Singapore. People cannot afford cars so they will be expensive accessories like mobile phones etc.
