Dell leaves their Direct Distribution Focus
why is Dell doing this?
They are one of the largest PC companies... they are losing market share so they go to a retailer which has the poorest display of electronic goods and software. A place that puts no real effort into selling products except by price. Cheap.
Why take your quality brand and place it somewhere where people will associate it with cheap goods. People go to Wal Mart to buy cheap stuff. Women go to Wal Mart to buy cheap toilet paper. Women go to Wal Mart to buy cheap throw away shoes, throw away clothes, throw away crap.
What do people feel about their computers? Does Dell really know what is the emotional attachment people have to their electronic devices?
I love my computers. They are like my babies. So, as a women, I would not go to Wal Mart to buy a computer just like I would not go there to buy a baby....wait a second.. babies are priceless. That is exactly how you want people to think about their computers... that they are priceless.. something special. Something they need.
Wal Mart. Yuck... you could have at least gone to Target.. Now that is a discount store that I might consider buying a computer from...it at least has a bit of class.. their electronic section is much more organized and they don't have a reputation for being cheap and tacky. No one wants to be tacky... you can be cheap.. but stay away from tacky.
There is one direct distributor that would be a great alliance for you.. think about it dell.. who do you want buying your computer? Where is your growth going to be coming from? Who shops at Wal Mart. If you are targeting women.. go back and think about how women shop. If your target is another demographic, then you really are aiming at the wrong Target.
